The Supermarine Spitfire was remembered as the RAF's outstanding fighter of WWII, & especially for the vital part it played at the Battle of Britain. The Spitfire's engine was manufactured by the Rolls Royce Merlin engine Co. With the Spitfire's dogfighting features, it was made one of the best fighters of all time. It could shoot down an ME-109E-4 in about a moments notice. Everyone was amazed at the Spitfire's tactics. This warplane made history among all the people in the world. The Spitfire shot down many enemy German fighter planes. The aircraft was basically a killer fighter for many RAF officers.
One RAF pilot said, 'I think every Spitfire pilot fell in love with it as soon as he sat in that nice, tight, cozy office* with every thing to hand.'
